Driving home from Yorkshire my partner and I were pleasantly surprised to see signposts for the "Angel of the North" just off the motorway as we drove through Gateshead near Newcastle. With camera in hand I expected something special from this sculpture, having seen quite a few photos of it in the past - and I wasn't disappointed.

The Angel is an impressive structure, standing 20 metres high and is a glorious rust colour, contrasting nicely with the bleak grey sky above.

It just goes to show that often the journey can be as good as the destination.
