A rummage around the woods behind the fantastic cottage we spent a week at this summer revealed this rather active cricket.

He was particularly keen on tucking himself away in the thick grasses then leaping away whenever I got close.

With my new macro lens I had to get within centimetres of this alien-like insect. On a giant blow-up of the shot the detail is astounding. It truly is another world down there.
