My partner, Kate, and I had decided to get away from the hustle and bustle of Edinburgh and head up to the Scottish Highlands for an afternoon.
We scouted out a suitable location on arriving and decided to take a walk to kill some time before sunset. When we returned to the chosen spot I was horrified to see that a party of around 20 photographers were securely ensconced and were furiously clicking away, so in desparation I ran to find another location but wasn't totally happy with any potential ones. Resigned to defeat we sat on our folding stools and waited.
Thankfully, I have a rule called "the half hour rule" which means that no matter how bad the weather prospects, wait the extra bit just in case. By this point the photography group had packed up and headed home and I was sure that was it for the day. By good luck, Kate's "look the other way" rule showed how the sky was turning a fantastic pinky colour and we rushed to another spot we had previously eyed. Some hurried setting up later we had the shot in the bag.
